I surprised that he was willing to go the distance with the slapstick comedy and being victim to stunts usually reserved for Chevy Chase and Jim Carrey. I found myself laughing uncontrollaby too many times and wasnt ashamed. I went with my girlfriends without the kiddie and they were laughing just as loud. By the ending I knew that I would have to return kiddies in tow. I liked the backdrop of Ice Cube's character ex-ball player, short career, still trying to floss. I liked that all his material possessions didnt impress the kids. I liked that Nia Long was a working single parent just trying to make it. The scenario is a very typical scenario which includes Ice Cubes very real character cause I know that despite a guys "Pimp" status, there are actually quite a few guys that will give it up if they take a liking to a a gorgeous babe. How typical is it for a guy of Ice Cube's caliber to try something new like a ready made family if it meant that he was going to actually have the opportunity to fall in love? Very typical and I liked that he fell head first bad kids and all. I liked that he figured he could try to hold on to his status by trying to hold on to his material possessions. I liked that the kids and Cube gave each other a taste of their own medicine. I especially liked that there was a happy ending putting him and Nia Long together again. (They are sooo cute together.)
My girlfriends liked it too but thought that Long was being a little ungrateful towards the end. Of course they dont have any kids and I had to explain that single mothers feel guilty a lot because they are not able to do it all. Long's character's reaction to what appeared to be a bad decision is very plausible and I probably would have did the same thing. But who cares? We all knew that it would work out in the end. Sign in 6 out of 7 users found this helpful Posted: 2/18/2005A review of Are We There Yet? by LAMBY65 First off, let me get this out of the way. I'm a white girl from MN, so the race card isn't working for me, I've yet to see a bad performance by a black actor-actress. I don't think a movie should be reviewed as a black-white movie, they are American made...get over it!
The movie on the other hand, while the plot was a good one, it was not the kind of a plot that could be-should be played out to conclusion in one day (the time span of this movie). There was an AWESOME PERFORMANCE BY ICE!! I felt that it covered too many issues for a comedy. And as such it took away from the movie. The concept was a bit too over the top for even a comedy, although I have to admit I loved THAT SUV!!! And it was so durable! I have an SUV with leather, and I found an ink pen spot on it once, and wanted to bring back corporal punishment!!! I had two 10 year olds with me, and we mostly just sat through most of the 2nd half of the movie, the funny parts were good for a giggle, but it was all tempered by the desperate attempts to bring up serious issues. I'm giving it 3 stars because I think it was very well acted, but have to admit the story itself could have been better played out as simply, a comedy! If I was going to recommend seeing it, I'd say don't get your hopes too high. My favorite part of the movie was him and the truck! Was this review helpful? Sign in 6 out of 7 users found this helpful Posted: 2/15/2005A review of Are We There Yet? by BlueBabe523 This movie is good but a lot could have been done to make it better. The film is funny but not overly halarious which makes it good. Some parts make you want to fall asleep but others wake you up because it's so funny. I recommend the movie if you just want to go and see a movie with some friends. Not a date kind of movie, altough Ice-Cube does play in it. A definite see-it-with-your-friends kind of movie! It will not even be worth the rental fee. There was not anything in this movie that has not been done before and done better. We took our six year old and she laughed maybe four times, it bored her. The rest of the audience reacted the same way. Was this review helpful? If you submit feedback on this review in the future, we will overwrite your previous feedback. Sign in 4 out of 9 users found this helpful Posted: 2/11/2005A review of Are We There Yet? by liarsliarsliars This movie was the single most stupid thing I've ever seen. My boyfriend took me to see it because he thought it might be okay. About a fourth of the way into it he leaned over to me and said "I am *so* sorry. Let's get out of here."
He and I are both ashamed that we gave money to that complete ant utter waste of our lives. We went and saw The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou instead. Now THAT is a good movie.
So, in conclusion: Don't waist your money on this piece of crap. Go see a good movie. Or rent one. Because, quite frankly, Hollywood is running out of ideas, and old movies are better anyway. Sign in 8 out of 12 users found this helpful Posted: 2/11/2005A review of Are We There Yet? by ArthurPewtey I took my "Little Brother" to see this as a movie of his choice. I'd not seen more than one "trailer" for it so went in with an open mind.
OK, so it's predictable ( you just KNOW that brand new car is going to end up junk!), and yep, to say the kids methods of putting off prospective new "dads" could have been more subtly played is a major understatement, but I did find myself laughing out loud.
As an adult in the real world you'd be hard-pressed to tolerate the behaviour of the kids, but since when are movies always "real world"?
If you're over 30 or so, you'll cringe often, but there are aspects that ring true (kids needing the bathroom 5 mins after the start of a long journey!), and if you're half that age or under, you'll probably love it! Sign in 5 out of 8 users found this helpful Posted: 2/9/2005A review of Are We There Yet? by kitolahela Though there were a couple of good laughs and heart-felt moments in the movie, it was an over-all bust! The acting was horrible from the start, thought I thought Ice Cube was the best of them all. There was just way too much cheese in the movie- the kind of lines that just make you roll your eyes. I'm gonna definitely go with the others sho said not to go unless someone else is paying... hey, that's what I did! Was this review helpful? Sign in 2 out of 4 users found this helpful Posted: 2/8/2005A review of Are We There Yet? by lovesmovies31 I thought this was a great movie. From the opening scene upto the end, I was laughing. I am glad I did not fall asleep during this one. By the way, if you are a big fan of the vehicle used for this movie, you better close your eyes. That thing is put through some aweful torture. The story line is very realistic, but if you have young children be prepared to discuss some adult issues brought up. Anyways, it is a must see movie. Was this review helpful? Sign in 3 out of 4 users found this helpful Posted: 2/5/2005A review of Are We There Yet? by Laurakwkc As the mom of four, I felt there were no lulls ANYWHERE in this movie and was not dissappointed in paying to see it for a good laugh and cry.
My kids were entertained as was I, and yes...the kids in the movie WERE mean as some have written in reviews, but I have kids and have taught public school......and HELLO...kids can be mean...especially when feeling threatened. These two naughty children come around two thirds of the way through the movie. I do find that Ice Cube is WAY more forgiving, to an unbelieveable level, than any human would be based on what these kids put him through, but this never was meant to be an Academy Award winning movie or acting performance and must be accepted for what it WAS meant to be. I willingly paid for all 6 of us plus a friend to go to the theatre to see it ,and was not disappointed for an afternoon out and a few great laughs and yes....even a couple of tears!
I want this on DVD for our car.....

It is not meant to be an Oscar contender so people need to stop treating comedies like this as such. Just enjoy the movie!! Was this review helpful? Sign in 3 out of 6 users found this helpful Posted: 2/4/2005A review of Are We There Yet? by JamesGuynn This movie started out really well, but soon just degraded into a slapstick comedy. I found myself looking at my watch after an hour. This was the "Alexander" of family comedies. Was this review helpful?
