The film has a good pace and delivers a solid story line. Characters are interesting. The quality of image and sound is great. I settled in for the duration of the film and got into the mood. The film was articulate. The plot line was reasonably complex and avoided a descent into cliche. I particularly enjoyed the Tilda character when she explains Allison's motivation.
Good entertainment. Was this review helpful? If you submit feedback on this review in the future, we will overwrite your previous feedback. Sign in 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 1/29/2009A review of Appaloosa by Chris98366 First off, the trailer for this movie is possibly the most misleading clip I've ever seen. Why it leads you to believe this movie is an action packed western is beyond me. To me, this movie is more about Renee Zellweger acting like a whore behind Ed Harris' back than anything else. On that note, I can't help but feel that Zellweger was probably the worst possible choice for this part. Not only does her acting seem completely forced and unnatural, but she is just so dam n ugly. Am I honestly supposed to believe that Ed Harris' character would put up with an ugly whore's crap? No, I don't think so. I felt so cheated coming out of this movie. If not for Viggo Mortensen, I'd give this movie zero stars. His acting is the only bright spot in this entire god forsaken mess of a movie. Was this review helpful? This review is actually about Rene Zellwege's face and how hard it was to believe she is a "Love Interest." When she was in Leatherheads I thought I was watching Leatherface. That's good acting on the guys part. If you notice the box & in the movie all her shots are from far away. Imagine if you will a piece of leather, dipped in lemon juice, and left in the desert sun. Then someone sends it off to Hollywood. BAM!!! Rene Zellweger. All I have to say is that the horses already had saddles, she didn't need to be there... Was this review helpful? Execellent story, direction, acting and unusual love story with enough action and good dialog to keep your interest.
Don't miss the song at the end of the move when credits are showing! Was this review helpful? If you submit feedback on this review in the future, we will overwrite your previous feedback. Sign in 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Its been awhile since a relly good western appeared on the big screen. Appaloosa is intelligently written, well acted and directed, and the cinematography is first rate. I liked the climax, which was a surprise but also predictable at the same time. Go see it. Sign in 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 10/26/2008A review of Appaloosa by donnamac13 This is one of the better westerns that I've seen in awhile. I would imagine that this was very close to what the old west was like. Didn't like Zellweger's character, but then I really don't like her. Viggo Mortenson was great as always and so was Ed Harris. I will buy this one when it comes out in DVD. Was this review helpful? If you submit feedback on this review in the future, we will overwrite your previous feedback. I enjoyed the faces & background. and period clothing The introduction of new cattle. The movie was slow so the problems & solutions could sink in. Thank you for a 2008 western. Sign in 0 out of 0 users found this helpful I'm not a huge fan of westerns, but after a summer of dizzying fast paced action flicks, I found Appaloosa to be very enjoyable. Good acting & a solid storyline held my interest. And the comedy was a pleasant surprise. Also I liked the twist on Mrs. French's character. She was definitely not the woman she appeared to be on the surface. A very good movie all the way around. Was this review helpful? I was not impress or entertained. Watch the DVD of Unforgiven, and then you'll know what Appaloosa wasn't. It is lite-weight in all departments. Don't waste your time seeing this dull excuse for a western. Was this review helpful? If you submit feedback on this review in the future, we will overwrite your previous feedback. Sign in 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Simply put, this was the worst movie I have seen in years! Little action, you know what is going to happen next, and a waste of 2 great actors time. Half the move was the 2 main characters either sitting at the jail or riding in the mountains, very frustrating and very boarding. Plus Renee Zellweger look horrible in this movie! She has picked up weight and just doesn't look her normal "cute" self. Don't waste your money to see this in the big screen or a rental!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was this review helpful? The acting is very good and the writing has a different slant the most westerns. Humorous lines, great photography and what seemed like very authentic sets are some of the positives of the film. But it is just too slow and the pace didn’t hold my interest; I wanted it to end. Finally, Rene Z’s character is very annoying. Was this review helpful?
