The story was creative, by Dan Brown ( the book ) the book was more understandable than the movie, and the book has more details. The book was too long to make a movie so they shorten it a little. Although many serious movie watchers would complain about certain aspects of the plot, if you are one to sit back and enjoy, then you will give credit to this movie.Overall, intriguing flow, well-paced,great actors, I would recommend it. I still haven't seen the first film, "Da Vinci Code", but it was worth catching this one. Angels and Demons was actually a good film to me, as an individual movie goer, and I liked the kidnapping mystery Tom Hanks' character had to put up with, and the ancient science group versus the Catholic church idea. Unless you dispise a central character who talks too much, this is actually a well-made film for cinema goers to check out. (However, I'm not so sure if there are elements in this sequal that may offend the Catholic faith in real life, as that of the first film.) Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful frantic but boringPosted: 5/29/2009A review of Angels & Demons by typical-genre This film has one feature that so many other current "action films" lack--namely the semblance of a plot provided by the engaging book upon which it is based. Many of the current action films-- no doubt written by committees of investors and their "screenwriters" eager to cater to the lowest common denominator--are often nothing more than a series of action scenes (explosions, chases, grisly murders, etc.) connected almost as an afterthought by the thinest thread of a barely intelligbile plot. Nevertheless, this film retains the most dissapointing cinematic premise of the current action filn genre--namely that by madly gyrating the camera, dizzily flicking from one scene to the next every few seconds, all accompanied by loud background thumping sounds and sinister monastary-style chanting, somehow a high level of inensity and suspense is engendered. For me, and perhaps others who have seen this all before, it engenders mostly crushing boredom accompanied by seasickenss. How I long for the great films of the past in which plot, rather than loud stumping noises and splecial effects were the essence of the film. Was this review helpful? This movie is so filled with plot flaws that it drove me crazy. It's all based on the premise that the Hero (Tom Hanks) takes the clues and drives them to some stupid conclusion-hook, line, and sinker... all the while, HE is being played the Fool... Yet, as typical of Howard/Hanks films (Apollo 13), we get the two mega-cheer appause at the end for who we're suppose to think is the hero (Hanks).... What a BOOB. Hanks must be desperate for work, to have taken on a story with this many plot-flaws... Was this review helpful? It was like a crash course on the Illuminati. It was like a rush job between priest. Hanks tried to keep the viewer up to speed, but still you never knew. I almost didn't go see it based on the critics reviews but I'm glad I did. I don't know what their problem is but they seem to have unrealistic expectations. Howard has corrected many of his weaknesses and faults seen on The Code, besides that the book is more cinematic than the other. Hanks and McGregor's performances are superb, realy.

That way, I won't be nit picking everything about the movie that differed from the novel. I agree with my fellow critics that this film was sleeker than the the first (and for good reasons). I loved Tom Hanks as the lead and I hope to see some more of him in this role. Was this review helpful? Not true. Angels and Demons was written well before the Da Vinci Code and indeed in the Davinci Code (book) reference is made to the events in Angels and Demons, however in the A&D movie just the reverse happens.
It is hard to condense the book for the purpose of time constraints of the movie but I feel they could have been less liberal with the changes that were made. Was this review helpful? Anyone can nit pick, but there were a few things I didn't care for. Vittoria wasn't much more than a vocal springboard for Robert to bounce his knowledge of church history off of. The incompetent guards kept running off, leaving Robert and Vittoria to walk into danger. The story felt stripped down and there wasn't any build of suspense. I didn't read the book, but even I saw the twist coming. Other than these irritations, the movie wasn't terrible. Tom Hanks and Ewan MacGregor can act.
