Putting Al Snore in the limelight was the worst of it. Why they picked a guy whose political baggage was the worst of my generation, well never know. When I was in college in the mid-80s, the doomsday threat was all-out nuclear destruction of the world - remember the movie The Day After? Scare tactics by a liberal Hollywood crowd. IF you can live your best life without man-made, life-improving technologies, then go right ahead and live without luxuries like the Amish. I need my 4WD truck and my wood burning stove to survive. That is not going to change especially as the winters are getting colder and the summers are shorter than ever in my area. Global warming? - BS! Was this review helpful? The only facts in this matter are that nobody knows for sure if global warming is a man made occurance or not. There have been many periods of the earth warming and cooling for millions of years. The propoganda is too thick on each side. People can research these fluctuations on the internet and decide for themselves...For the people that are 100 percent sure that global warming is happening because of man, I suggest they google the little ice age. THE BEST RULE TO FOLLOW IS NEVER BELIEVE POLITICIANS OR LAWYERS...especially in the political season!! Was this review helpful? Also I have found many remarks about God and how it is in his hands...a little too ignorant and trusting for me - for one, God can not be everywhere at once and he has shown that he has a hands off approach (otherwise where was he during Katrina, 9-11, etc) and if we choose to destroy ourselves, I dont think he is going to suddenly step in and save us. Many extreme Christians and right wingers say why NOT believe in God, do you really want to wait until its too late to change your mind. Well, I say why NOT believe there is a climate crisis going on, do you really want to wait until its too late to save the Earth? How arrogant is it to think that we can continue to pillage the Earth at the rate civilized (HAHA) society is going and not have a detrimental impact on it!! If we do make positive changes, this just makes the Earth a better place all around to live - I have to ask the skeptics, how can that be bad?!?!
We really need to all step together in this and support one another for the good of the Earth that is supporting us arrogant humans with food, water, air! So get over your political biases people, this is a MORAL issue not a political issue!! Use your brains and not your religious biases to try to understand what positive changes we can make in the world!!
This movie presents THE SCIENTIFIC FACTS not just some mumbo jumbo made up by a political strategists and presents it in an unbiased way....well, unbiased in the desire to protect our natural resources, wildlife and quality of life...I have to ask....how can that be wrong?! And Hollywood just LOVES a good conspiracy theory! So much easier to believe than the truth... so much easier to understand than the real scientific facts... and much more fun - it is gossip that almost sounds like science.
As we all know, gossip is the second largest commodity produced by Hollywood. Look at how they have practically deified the likes of Michael Moore, who, if not for the support (or should I say, adoration) of Hollywood, would probably be classified as mentally unstable and institutionalized (or at least made a head editor for one of the Hollywood tabloids - all their stories are completely true too, didnt you know that?).
Al Gore is first, last, and always, a politician. And the political agenda messages sprinkled throughout this movie came out loud and clear. People are going to believe whatever they want to believe. It is unfortunate that the majority are so easily swayed by predictions of gloom and doom, especially when delivered by someone who is easy on the eyes or who seems to have some credibility because of once holding a high position.
Yessiree - the snake-oil salesmen are alive and well and living in Hollywood.
P.S. If I could give this movie a zero-star rating, I would. Was this review helpful? As the Earth has, since... well EVER, cycled through warmer and cooler seasons, Algore and his mad scientists attempt to prove his voodoo numbers and explain we are all dead within a decade if America does not drive Hybrids. All this as Algore flies all over the world spewing massive amounts of Greenhouse gases as he goes - but he is offsetting his carbon footprint. He is so much better than any of us!
Others have attempted to explain, America is the cause of all the worlds problems and it is up to us to bite the bullet and save the Earth. And the Earth will heat up if it does not freeze first from our Greenhouse Gas emissions.
Algores next project of explaining how the oxygen of the Earth will evaporate unless the oxygen in air increases to levels that all life of Earth can not breathe it. This is all caused by electing anyone but Liberals to any office. Conservatives exhale more or less oxygen than Liberals and if those levels rise or fall, it will spell doom for all life in 16.2 years. Scientists from all over the world and Hollywood agrees wholeheartedly, like they would ever disagree with Liberal science. The song for this future Oscar winning film will be performed by the Dixie Chicks and Rosie ODonnell.
Watch An Inconvenient Truth if you have run out of stupid stuff to be worried about. Also dont forget that mold spore is reproducing in your ear lobes that may cause deafness in 3.2 of the population in 43.1 years! OH NOOOOO!!! Was this review helpful? Let me see, maybe we didnt drive cars way back then! Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 8/21/2006A review of An Inconvenient Truth by BrazilMachine Although I have a major ADD, I was paying attention during the whole movie. It is unquestionable that Al Gores communication skills is substantially higher than average. He has been working on this issue for more than a decade. He is truly passionate about it. The beauty about technical issues like global warming is that it is science. Science is a civilized game, where the best wins. Al Gore, undeniably, check-mated! 987 articles of PHD scientist were writen about this issue, and none of them agreed with the Skeptics!
The main argument is this The rate of increase of temperature in the world has enormously increased (acceleration, if you will, of temperature) during the past few decades, and it is statistically correlated with carbon dioxide emissions (concentration on the atmoshpere). The worst part about this is that the carbon dioxide concentration on the atmoshpere is exponentially increasing. Every damn scientific experiment shows this. I have no doubt in my mind that if nothing is done on this matter, we will see catastrophic consequences in the world (see the movie). It makes my mom cry every day now. My only satisfaction will be when those dumb people (skeptics) will be proven idiots in the near future just like the mentally challenged ones who believed that going to war in Iraq was a good idea (instead of listening to the PHDs). This theory of global warming has become a theory now (just like the theory of relativity and acceleration of gravity), and it is no more a skeptical issue, except for all the ignorant people. Today they tell our young children that they will be lucky to live to see 20 years of age. What a bunch of quacks! If you have the desire to learn, do a little research and you will find out that Al Gore didnt invent the internet either. Was this review helpful? Sign In 5 out of 5 users found this helpful Posted: 7/13/2006A review of An Inconvenient Truth by jpfay AL Gore makes a very convincing laymans made simple case for the crises to come from global warming. Intersperced with his pitch is an insight into his life and he relates his struggles of a hospitalised son and a sister who dies of lung cancer. I heard some of those right wing radio hosts(Dont paint me liberal all political parties have failed me) that they could not see the reason for the inclusion of his sisters death but it made great sence and set up the old magazine ad that he held up that proclaimed that all leading doctors agreed that ciggarrettes were healthy.
The fact that he went after mostly Republicans is the fact that they, as a group, have dismissed Global warming as theory rather than the ugly reality that it is. Republicans seem to be threatened by any legislation that either makes industry alter its ways or raise the minimum milege standards. It is clear that Ford and GM have to make more efficient cars and the oil industry must eventually vacate to infinate resources of power, and judging from where these supplies are obtained, the sooner the better.
The reason I didnt give this film 5 stars was his sons plight that didnt seem to serve the Global warming.
As a documentary, it was very informative and an issue that we all will have to face in the near future. I just wish the right wing radio talk show hosts would answer the films arguments point by point in honest debate rather than blanketly call those who disagree with them Butt monkies or Kool aid drinkers. Im rather tired of sopmoric debate. If a pun is the lowest form of humor than name-calling is the bargain basement of rhetoric. Was this review helpful? I came out with a huge lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. How could our generation possibly cause so much damage to this wonderful planet God has given us! We are very arrogant to treat our planet like this. I was, however, very hopeful that if enough people go to see it, it will move people to care and to push our sorry legislators toward seeking true solutions to this pending disaster! I am an optimist, so I look for the opportunities that will come to pass because of this....yes, even financial....new ways to reduce carbon emissions will be big business! I will never, never buy another vehicle that is dependent on gasoline only! I will pester my senate and house members until they wake up and decide to take action. I hope we vote them ALL out of office in November to make a statement that this country is still run BY THE PEOPLE. I also dream of how much better off the country would be had Al Gore gotten elected. Now we have this stupid sorry cowboy who gives the rich tax breaks while the poor and middle class fall further down the ladder. Of course, King George is above the law and makes them up as he goes along. Shame on all of you who voted for him not once, but twice. Ill never, never understand how so many people could be so ignorant! Was this review helpful? No matter how much research is posted, some will think it is a hoax just as the lunar landings were staged in Hollywood.
As a former researcher working with the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, I cant help but giggle and then cry when I read some of the reviews. the earth will end when God is ready for it to end. Hmmm...okay. Or, man isnt significant enough to cause this dilema ourselves.
The research is there. The proof is in the studies. The public is easily bored with this stuff and defensive when it might mean parking their Super Duty truck or full sized SUV.
As per the movie, some of the information is over simplified and the content a little spotty, but with the collective low IQ of Joe Public, I think its a good attempt to let people know just whos knocking at the door. Was this review helpful? President Bush said it was one of our greatest threats. Most of the negative reviewers here are partisan and gave the movie a negative review based on their Bush love, but they dont even know their presidents positions on things. Are you calling Bush a liar? Do you not have faith in him? Bush said I think its I have said consistently that global warming something is a serious problem. There is a debate over whether its manmade or naturally caused. We ought to get beyond that debate and start implementing the technologies necessary to enable us to achieve a couple of big objectives. One, be good stewards of the environment, and two become less dependent on foreign sources of oil for economic reasons and for national security reasons.
I think he watched the movie and understood some of it. Was this review helpful? Sign In 7 out of 18 users found this helpful Posted: 6/25/2006A review of An Inconvenient Truth by TeddyHotPants Although it has a lot of important information, I wouldnt go out of your way to see it. Without taking notes, it seemed that 60 percent of the film was Al Gore going over charts and graphs. I think there should be enough archival footage out there to show a lot more (then and no photos and movies) to make a much stronger visual impact on people, rather then hammering them with numbers and graphs.
I was expecting a movie that would have such a strong visual impact, that it would draw me in and be over too soon. Instead, I found myself getting fidgety and contemplating leaving. Fahrenheit 9-11 left you wanting more information and scratching your head as to how Bush got elected. This movie left me thinking that Gore missed the mark to appeal to a broader audience and still has a chip on his shoulder over the 2000 election.
1) Went well out of his way to take credit for recognizing the issue.
2) No guest speakers or subject matter experts (SME), other than in passing.
3) Mentioned the Kyoto Treaty, but did not explain it or go into detail.
4) Used (made for the movie cartoons) that over simplified and seemed insensitive.
5) Politically motivated.
6) Above all, narrated by Al Gore (I voted for him, as did the majority of the country, but hes still a dry speaker).
Well intended but too self-aggrandizing. Was this review helpful? Sign In 6 out of 15 users found this helpful Posted: 6/25/2006A review of An Inconvenient Truth by NewMandle Let me first congratulate you , Mr. Al Gor, for your great scientific - cinematographic job. Good analyze of the subject, good messsages to the world, making the matter understandable for average observer...
Let me have some critics too
1- We understand how you returned to research this issue after the 2000 election mess, but there is no need to bring it up in this movie.
2- The claim you make in the movie ...doing the right thing moves us forward.. is a too- general-statement for the complicated matter of economic compromises... you need to propose your ideas in this part, like other parts, based on statistics, charts, and facts...
Thank you for a meaningful movie! Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
