This was an amazing movie. I agree with most people that it started off really slow. I also believe that some of the fluff of the movie could have been taken out too. The movie seems to drag on because some of the scenes are not important and have no action. Someone said that this movie is not going to go down as a "mob Classic" and that's because this movie was not meant to be one. This movie was about the ethical dilemma that frank Lucas and Det. Roberts had to go through. Both saw where the importance of ethic should be in two different places. Frank Lucas felt that the home is the place where ethical value is more important and Det. Roberts felt society or work ethics are more important. Both in the end ended up seeing it in the same light.

this movie begins in harlem 1968, starring denzel washington as frank lucas, driver and bodyguard to bumpy johnson, mr. washington takes over bumpys buisness when his mentor suddenly passes away of a heart attack. This movie is exciting, heart pounding, and will have you on the edge of your seat. co starring in this fantastic movie is russel crowe as detective richie roberts, josh brolin as crooked special narcartics agent trouper, and a large variety of awesome actors who put on an awrd winning performance. i bought this movie on dvd and i cant put it down. along with a spectacular musical score, this movie is a must see.

In all accounts the movie is no Godfather or Scarface for that matter and I dont think it will go down as one of the "mob classics" but Denzel Washingtons performace is what makes the movie solid and worth watching. He really jumped between the complexities of his character with great ease and made it look soo natural. He deserves an Oscar for this. Its an Okay storyline which lacks in some parts but its Denzel who take the prize home. Im not even a big fan but he is all that i really remember about this movie. Go See it!

Overall this movie has a very good storyline, but the casting was all wrong. As a female and a huge Denzel Washington fan, I hate seeing him play the villian in any movie. I couldn't even sit through "Training Day." Denzel please stick to more distinguished roles because I get turned off when you play the "bad guy." Killing Idris Elba character in the movie broke by heart cause next to Denzel, Idris is the man. Denzel shouldn't have been in the movie at all, Idris should have played Denzel's role, what was Cuba Gooding, Jr point in the movie, why did T.I play a good guy in the movie, but a thug in real life, I know it's just me. PEOPLE PLEASE SEE THE MOVIE BEFORE YOU READ THE USER'S REVIEWS SO YOU CAN FORM AN OPINION FOR YOURSELF.

A very disappointing movie. Lots of dark shadows and hard to see faces. Much mumbling. Noisy backgrounds. We were ready to go after 45 minutes but tried a few more and after an hour decided to cut our losses and leave.

Brilliant acting, directing, script, and cinematography. Violently graphic and realistic to someone who grew up during those turbulent times. The story is cultivated skillfully so that it is NOT predictable, and the viewer is rewarded with storyline closure that answers most questions. While the movie is very intense, it's gritty delivery makes you think deeply. Ponder this: Is violence a necessary part of life or reality or dramatic storytelling? One doesn't really know where it all separates, or if it even does! Will definitely see this movie again! Brilliant, Mr. Scott!

I was very disappointed in this movie. Not only was it too slow, but the scenes cut in before anything could build. The premise of the movie was interesting, but just too dragged out.

I wanted to get interested in the movie, but the scenes changed before they could develop, and time passed without letting anyone know that years were passing us by. Both Washington and Crowe could not convince me who they were. The story was hit and miss. for as long as the movie was, you would think it should have more character development.

Definitely not the typical gangster movie. However, it is excellent and well worth the ticket price. Perhaps it would be more appealing to diehard ganster film lovers if the gangster was glorified, which was not the case in this film. This gangster was a real man, whose intelligence made up for the bigger than life fisade previously played by gangsters. The audience was exposed more to the brutal impact of the gangster on the community, which also gave the film a much different feel than the typical gagster flick. The acting and story line were sensational. You have to respect the differences between this one and other ganster classics to really love it for just what it was.

Washington plays the same character in every movie he is in. The only thing interesting in this movie was the constant scenes showing the microphone. Was this a low budget movie? Each time the microphones appeared the audience laughed. Most intertaining thing in the movie.
