A movie worth seeing and owning. Wilberforce is a better example to set before our children than half of the idols and heros of today. This man stood up for his faith and his convictions for 25 years before he saw the fruit of his labor and yet he didn't give up. Where are the Wilberforce's of today?

I loved this movie! It was such a relief to see such a well-done, inspiring film. I love history, and although the movie seemed like a PBS film, I enjoyed it. Please, see this movie and you will never regret it!

I enjoyed watching this movie very much for several reasons. It has a few universal themes money vs peoples lives, self vs non-self, human suffering. Is it not always the story? From Antiquity to Present, we have had to make these choices. What touched me the most in the movie was to see how Christian thinking could transcend culture, ethnicity, established traditions. How Wilberforce, an Englishman could find in his Christian heart to fight for the freedom of Jamaican slaves. The courage, determination, the passion he showed are great lessons that can be applied to other situations and we do not have even to be Christian to be able to see as the blind man in the movie puts it for, deep inside, we all know about basic human needs and emotions.

This movie really must be seen. It inspires one to look beyond oneself, to believe that with God all things really are possible, to commit oneself to fighting against wrong even when the odds against you are overwhelming. The performances of Ioan Gruffudd, Albert Finney, Romola Garai, Ciaran Hinds, and really the entire cast are spectacular. It is also full of the humor of life, reminding us that these extraordinary people are what we ourselves could be. Watch this movie. Tell your friends.

Every thing was amazing except for the clevage on the women. I couldnt even watch that as a Christian. My husband had to shut his eyes during this time. Please do something about this matter. Patricia Heaton is a beautiful person.

This was a wonderful movie of character, commitment, perseverence and sterling character. However, I am constantly amazed how various reviewers of any movie reduce the subjectmatter to corrolaries between the Dems and Reps...the Evil George Bush - the black lord of Darkness, and our Democratic leadership - the Saviors of the known world, climate, welfare and inventors of the 1.6 liter flushing toilet. Lets give it up for once and just enjoy a movie for its merits and recommend it as such. O that we all would have such fortitude as Wilberforce to commit to right wrongs at the risk of all we are that we once again would be granted that Amazing Grace to be people of such nobility. This should be required viewing by all students and certainly recommended viewing for all Amercians to remind us of the more nobler pursuits which should consume us, rather than being consumed as we are with ourselves and the consumption of all we can touch for self agrandizement. Great Film!

I thought that this movie was on that all school children should be able to see for free just to prove that one man with enough courage can accomplish wonders. The scenic elements were magnificent, the acting sincere, not polished, the character actors focus was phenomanal. I loved the movie but I admit I wa stunned by the scene where Wilberforcec is walking down the corridor and looks into a mirror but instead of seeing himself he sees an African girl weighed down by those hideous shakles. It reminded me that the slave trade still exists in this world and Wilberforce only began the job we need to see his work completed. The world is so big and we are so small but remember we do not own the earth, mother earth owns all of us. As in the hymn I was blind but now I see!

I could not help but think while watching this movie of the parallels between what was happening in Britain in the early 1800s and what is happening today in the USA. The debate between the House of Lords and the House of Commons regarding slavery is nearly identical to the debate between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party regarding the Iraq War with much of the same arguments and rhetoric being used on both sides. The House of Lords supported the slave trade because of the enormous profits to be made which supported a lavish lifestyle for themselves and their families while the House of Commons opposed the slave trade on moral grounds. The members of the House of Lords even attacked the members of the House of Commons loyalty and patriotism for wanting to abolish the slave trade and with some success. In todays world, the Republican Party supports the War because of the enormous profits to be made and the Democratic Party opposing the War on moral grounds. It is not often that a movie gets applause at the end from the audience, however that is just what happened when I saw this movie. This movie is not your typical Indiana Jones or James Bond action adventure movie but rather is a movie that is designed to educate and make you think. These types of movies are more often seen on PBS or the history channel however it is great to see movies of this caliber being shown in the theaters and receiving commercial success. Maybe there is hope for the world and mankind after all.

This movie showed a good cause and how a man gave his lifes work and passion to trying to stop slave trade in Great Britain. I thought the clothing, visuals, scenery, and photography was very vivid and beautiful. But it lacked personality. I felt it was more of a dressed up account of what happened in history. I didnt feel like I cared about the actors much. There was no depth to their characters. The movie was a little too forced and cold for my taste. But if you love history, this would probably appeal to you. I really didnt know how Great Britain felt about or handled slavery, so it was interesting, but didnt feel like going to the movies.

This movie was incredible all around. The acting, cinematography, and story. It reminded me of how the arts should be to lift man up to be something better. The story of a man who did what he must because it was the right thing to do and because God had burdened him to do it. Evil prevails when good men do nothing as the saying goes and so does life. I was entertained and warmed to see something of worth on the screen. Dont get me wrong I will be the same guy going to see Bruce Willis in the next Die Hard 15 or whatever it is because I like movies, but this movies was worth seeing and you will walk away feeling like movies can uplift and educate. Take your family and friends if you want to experience something beautiful, noble, and uplifting. It shows the worst in man not to glorify, but also shows the best in man when he submits in humility to do what God calls us to do. A real man to look up to and not a fake I can kill them all singlehandedly like Die Hard will be. Yippykyee. Enjoy and God Bless
