IT FING (@ED. When I first herd about this movie I thought it would be a great video flick because I scored Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare on GBC an 8.5 out of 10. And there was one rule that was created for this movie LEAVE THE DIRECTING TO DIRECTOR TIM BURTON. Yall know the director of Batman, Batman Returns, James and the Giant Peach, Edward Scizorhands, Sleepy Hallow, and Big Fish. THATS WHAT KILLED THIS THE MOST. So its safe to say this. Uwe Boll has no place in the film industry. Except to make other directors feel better about their horrible movies. At least they can take comfort in knowing they can say Well, at least I didnt make Alone in the Dark! The story jumps around so much its more than confusing, none of the plot makes any sense, and doesnt connect the story in any way. The acting is terrible, the effects, at best, are worse than the old NES Nintendo system! The only reason Boll keeps on is because of that stupid German Government clause which pays him for the difference the movies dont make at the theater! I think they revoked that law, and if you ask me, it high time they did. Dont waste your time, funds, or brain power on this horribly boring, confusing, and all around crappy movie. This one made me want to start a fight with my roommate, who rented it and asked me to watch it. If a friend ever suggests this movie to you, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE dont watch it! Chyeah.Posted: 2/24/2006A review of Alone in the Dark by Kiwi711 This movie was so bad. I went to see it because I love Christian Slater, but it sure was painful.
The writing is terrible and full of bad cliches, and the plot is so poorly constructed, Im sure a ninth grader could have done better. The acting was abysmal... Why does Tara Reid keep getting cast in movies? The woman cant act. She was playing an intelligent character but still came off stupid, to the point where my friends and I just gave up being polite and started yelling at the screen (another sign that a movie is awful, the rest of the people in the theatre were cheering us on as they walked out). I feel really bad for Mr. Slater. Hes a good actor, but when youre given a script like that, and Tara Reid to work with? There really isnt much you can do.
This movie had a lot of cool special effects, and some enetrtaining action sequences, which would have been fine, except that they were completely random. It was like the writers had ADD. They were putting in scenes, not because they were useful to the story, but because they looked cool. By the end, Id completely lost track of what was going on, as the film grew more incoherant with every passing minute, and as the credits rolled, I was left with the sad realization that this movie had just taken ninety six minutes of my life away. Thankfully, I bought the DVD in the January sales for just a few s and after it had already been reduced (presumably due to poor sales and I can see why).
However, in fairness, this film will win one award...
...and the award for the film with the most cliches used goes to...

I think really what happened with this movie is that it appealed to the wrong audience. Theproduction before release made this movie seem like a horror movie. Most young people want to see horror. I GOT NEWS FOR THOSE PEOPLE GET ALIFE HORROR IS NOT THE ONLY MOVIE GENRE. SO STOP MOPPING THAT YOU MISSED OUT ON A HORROR MOVIE AND WRITING BIASED AND BS REVIEWS ABOUT ACTION MOVIES.this is a great movie the best one i have seen the one bad thing about it is the people it draws I mean no one person on the internet can explain why they dont like this movie. What better game than 'Alone In The Dark'. The character of 'Edward Carnby' is brought to life with actor Christian Slater in this fantastic 1 hour 36 minutes film. Expect amazing action, relentless monsters and definitely scare factors. This movie delivers it all. Uwe Boll has done an amazing job. This film mixes SWAT based action with adventure. The caves where the monsters live is incredible. The visual effects were terrific too. This movie stays true to the game unlike any other game to movie transitions out there. 'Alone In The Dark' is worth watching and incredible acting performances by Slater and Reid. The music score is also unbelievable. The use of 'hard rock' music just brings out what is great in this movie. Get the DVD too, with huge documentaries and peek at what is going to be a 'sequel' aka 'Alone In The Dark 2'. If you wanted to know more about the Abkani civilisation and the 'sleepers', the DVD is the answer. Watch this movie. I highly recommend it. Was this review helpful? Idiotic writing, film school directing, and acting that could have been better performed by cardboard cutouts make this film more torture than entertainment. Some words of advice: if you ever get it in your mind to see this film, throw your cash in the street and gouge your eyes out with a spork. This movie is just as bad as House of the Dead but with better special effects. I can't believe videogame companies are handing over their game licenses to this absolutely retarded director. It's like he's paying for these movies out of his own pocket or he's embezzling the money for himself and spending nothing on the movies. If you hated this movie and wish Uwe Boll dead or fired, get ready to hate Bloodrayne, Dungeon Siege ("We want to do something like Lord of the Rings with this one."- Uwe Boll), and I think the other one was Driver. Unfortunately folks, he's trying to get more game properties for his less-than-amateur filmmaking, well... can't call it a job because that implies he's doing something good as far as work goes, how's about "hobby"?
