The director had no sense of rhythm- there were long stagnant pauses. There were also sensless extended boring sub-plots that added nothing to the movie. This was a painful experience and a complete waste of time- I would have walked out if Jack weren't in the movie and there weren't any letters to Ndugu. Was this review helpful? I saw About Schmidt with a friend of mine, and We both really was impressed with the whole film, Jack was so great, we knew this one would earned him a oscar again, Jack showed he still has it to be america's most greatful actors, Both him and Kathy Bates who also gave a oscar-worthy performance along side with jack proved to be exciting, and entertaining to watch on screen. The story was great, Jack and Kathy were hillarious, and mostly fun to see. The movie is great and has a full of good heart. Was this review helpful? The movie sets up as a simple dark comedy but these is a very positive message if you look just beneith the surface. Nicholson's acting is subperb and he has good support from Dermot Mulroney and Kathy Bates. Any Nicholson fan will love this movie and if you enjoy laughing at the absurdity of true life, you'll enjoy this flick. Jack Nicholson reprises his vacuous character that has made him a film icon with a role of great depth. Though the script suffers a bit from predictable depictions of the humdrum nature of modern life, there’s enough spark and cleverness to keep it going. Schmidt’s search for meaning takes on a bit of a road trip quality and this has proven to be a winning formula in many memorable films. Nicholson’s got his entire bag of facial tricks going strong and, though clichéd, just when we’re about to lose hope at the end, redemption is quick and pointed. Was this review helpful? I regret ever going to see this movie. I don't see how anyone could like it. At one point in the movie I thought I was going to puke from boredom. I feel sorry for whoever wrote this ";movie";. Should an average working American parent start thinking about devoting more time to his/her parents? Familly vs. career, could he really manage both at the same time in the world where corporate elite sets standards and constantly growing requirements? After seeing this movie I started asking myself all kind of questions and that's exactly what made this movie so great from my point of view. What if your own child after a while starts looking at you through the dime, and if you only at the end figure out that you were not such a caring parent as you thought you had been? How defeted would you feel if you discover the very esence of your life at the very end and finaly realise that most of the key aspects of your entire life were nothing more than just mere superficialities? You are already 66, old and too weak to change anything, except maybe the life of a little, malnutritioned orphan from Tanzania, helpless little Ndugu. I DO HOPE FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEARTH THAT THIS MOVIE WILL SCOOP AS MANY OSCARS AS POSSIBLE. Was this review helpful?
