Wow! I saw this film and thought it was moving and riveting. Gordon(Poitier) befriends a blnd girl who has no hope in her family.Selena(Hartrman) is locked in her walls by her mother Rose-Ann (devilishly played by Winters), and her grandfather "old Pa"(Ford). This amazing film showed how one man made a diffence in a handicapped individual's future; Rose-Ann treats her daughter like a slave, amd Old Pa gets drunk and crass every day.Gordon is "the champion" we all should be. WHen the handicapped can't stand up for themselves, they need Heroes.

This has always been one of my favorite movies of its time. It is a very moving story of interracial frienship and romance. I thought every performance in this movie was wonderful and specificaly the realtionship between the blind Elizabeth hartman and poitier was a beautiful but sad one. This film made a strong, wonderful statement as to the ugliess of racism. Shelley Winters just passed away. She was a marvelous actress. God rest her soul.
