Director Bob Clarke creates a very funny and warm movie, based on the novel by Jean Shepherd and written for the screen by Shepherd, Leigh Brown and Clark.
The story about a kid who wants a BB gun for Christmas and his life during that time is beautifully depicted by actors Peter Billingsley, Darren McGavin and Melinda Dillon.
Will now probably watch it every year! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 12/17/2004A review of A Christmas Story by M8terialGirl WHAT the fudge? It's the perfect holiday movie to watch with a big bowl of popcorn. Was this review helpful? The classic scene in the chinese restaurant when the family is introduced to "Chinese Turkey" is without a doubt one of the funniest scenes in any movie, holiday or otherwise. Children of all ages can relate to this movie. Every child has anxiously anticipated seeing Santa with their wish list committed to memory only to go blank when the all important moment arrives. I can't imagine Christmas without this movie to watch on Christmas eve. It's a tradition in our house. Was this review helpful? Peter Billingsly lives up to his role, as Ralphie, the nine-year old, with a passion for a Red Ryder BB Gun. Jean Shepard narrates this humorous Christmas movie, leading on his life, as the adult Ralphie, looking back on his childhood Christmas'; one in particular. After asking his mother for a Red Ryder BB Gun, Ralpie gets this response; "You'll shoot your eye out." More catch phrases fill this film, such as "I Triple Dog Dare Ya!!" or "Bumpasses!!" The unseen Bumpasses, hound dogs, haunt Ralpie's father, who continually yells taunts at them, and their owners. With Ralpie, Randy, their mother, their father, Schwartz, Flick, and Scut Farcuss, this is one movie that'll leave you saying, "WHAT?! WHAT?!?!?!" Was this review helpful? It has something to offer to all generations. The stubborn adult, the child who is going to save the world in his own way and who of course can forget the bully who finally "gets his". You won't regret seeing this movie if you haven't seen it before. Excellent movie for everyone.... Was this review helpful? This and "Christmas Vacation" are the holiday flicks of every year. The irresistable charm of the wacky family and the hillarious attempts to win his parents over on the purchase of a bb gun. "You'll shoot your eye out kid." He goes all out, the teacher, his mother, his father and the jolly ole elf himself. Big red. All to no avail. Cute, funny and well filmed. Good clean family fun. The movie is well preformed and acted. I can relate to Ralphie because after watching the movie that I wanted my very own red rider BB gun, which I still have, but haven’t shot my eye out. My favorite part of the movie was when Ralphie got a C- on his report and saw that his teacher had placed “ You’ll shoot your eye out” on his report and then he day dreamed his mother working for his teacher. I also found it funny of when Ralphie went to help out with his father into fixing the blown out tire and when the pot of nuts came flying into the air that Ralphie had said the queen of all words “The F word” and no it’s not fudge either. The movie is just plan hilarious and is worth seeing it over the holidays. I strongly recommend this movie to anybody who wants to enjoy a hilarious movie during the holidays. Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 6/25/2003A review of A Christmas Story by Anonymous ...Is it me or is there some pang of homoeroticism between "Ralphie" and the narrator? For someone longing for a gun (Red Ryder B-B or not), both Ralphies don't act that butch. And the narrator used too many details to describe himself as a child. And the younger Ralphie literally slinks and mugs like he's craving for attention... from Dad? Mom? the @#$% gun? The Older Ralphie/Narrator? Who knows? I wish TBS stop showing and showing and showing and showing this between late november to feburary. Hope I didn't ruin the image of this movie for some people, but does someone else see this huge Freudian slip? Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
