I went with high hopes to go see "9" just to figure out that it is comparable to "In the Name of the King" by Uma Bowel. This movie had no plot and the different scenes pieced together as if you were trying to fit a square into a round hole. It seemed like the producers pieced everything together overnight and slapped a title on to it. The characters had no history and all became best friend in the fifteen minutes they weren't being attacked by another machine. The movie was incredibly predictable. A scientist builds a computer to help mankind. But what's it going to do? Do the job it's supposed to? No. It has to gain the knowledge to know that it is being used and must attack mankind ( I, Robot, Eagle Eye, etc.). But, somehow, this computer is "different." It makes robots out of spare pieces and programs them to kill cloth puppets. And what was 9 still doing in the room while the rest of them had evidently been there for a long period of time? And why couldn't the scientist have left the recording in front of 9 so he could actually know what he was doing? In the end, 9 destroys the machine and attains the souls of his friend and sets up a ritual so that they can be free. And then what happens? They fly up into the sky and and it starts to rain glowing puppet pieces for absolutely no reason. It doesn't recolinate the planet, it doesnt grow vegetation, it scatters parts of their family around them. Then the four that didn't die by getting the life !@#$ed out of them live happily ever after.

Graphics = excellent (not "visually stunning" but interestingly different), as though done through otherworldly eyes. Plot = good (seems thin but then what "real life day to day" plot isn't thin when put in front of a camera). Yes it's animated. No, it's not for kids (though some will feel the kids 'must see' because it's animated - "Fritz The Cat" was animated too...). Not a "kid movie" unless the kid is above average and has "understanding". A cautionary tale with an excellent and interesting visual affect. The characters are well developed and all have unique places in the movie. A movie worth seeing and SHOULD be seen at the theater so all the visual nuances will be revealed. I LIKED it.

I took my 15 year son to see this, last Friday. It was strange...different, very dark and a bit scary. I'm really glad that my 11 year old wasn't able to come. It was strange...the plot was interesting enough, the ending kind of strange, but over all I liked it and enjoyed it.

Today was a sad day. I took my kids to watch 9 - and was sadly disappointed. The previews looked promising. The plot was poor, the developments were unclear and the ending was very... Oh, words fail me. I just didn't like it at all. My kids didn't like it either - my son was not impressed with the graphics, daughter thought the ending was generally "$%&*ish!" Not my word - I am just quoting. I wish I hadn't wasted my money at the theaters - and I definitely won't purchase this on DVD or Blueray.

This movie wasn't what I was expecting. I was hoping for a bit more but it wasn't bad by any means...just different..kinda dark. I hope they make another one.

This movie was fantastic. It didn't let me down at all. I think this movie is a great dip into a truly original genre. So many movies now days are just copies or remakes of stories done before and this is a truly new and exciting offering from Tim Burton. Marvelous.

I don't understand these professional film critics. They give Extract a high review and 9 a less than average?! I've seen both and disagree strongly with both reviews. Animation doesn't necessarily mean kid-friendly and this story is a bit dark, but I really enjoyed it. The detail is exquisite. My one issue, about the 30th time something jumps out at you, I was a little over it. But the story is there. The plot is there, it just isnt all that complicated and doesn't have to be. I was really impressed with Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer, and John C. Reilly. They really added something special that I don't think just anybody could have, unlike a lot of celebrity voices in animation. If you can handle movies that aren't all sunshine and roses, I think you'll like this one.

"9", the full length animated feature by Shane Acker, based off his short, is an excellent post apocalyptic fable that's moved along by terrific action and fantastic animation. The influences of producers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambotov are evident, from the opening scene of the Dr. Frankenstein like scientist to the unique visuals that permeate the landscape. The story is kept fairly simple, as 9 (voiced by Elijah Wood) wakens in a world that has been ravaged by war. As he explores, he meets other beings similar to himself, as well as nightmarish mechanical beasts that roam the war ravaged city. All of the characters have distinct personalities (5, voiced by John C. Reilly, and 7, voiced by Jennifer Connelly, stand out) and are likable enough, yet one wishes that we had more time to get to know them better. Still, all in all, this is worth catching on the big screen, especially for fans of the producers as well as fans of sci-fi and animation.
