Excellent movie. Great dialogue, fantastic acting, amazing shootout sequences, it has it all. The story is one of the greatest told in western form to date. I'd love to see a western movie try to top this one.

Didn't watch it in the theatre, rented the DVD. Still a waste of money. Crowe contiunes killing the men escorting him, one by one, and yet they don't shoot him. The father never shoots his rifle, till the unbelievable ending. Why Crowe now wants to pretend to go to prison to help the father out and helps him shoot his own men. Total waste of Crowe's talent. Waste of money and time. It does sound like modern times though, regardless how many times a killer being escorted starts killing the crew escorting him, there's someone pleading with others to protect the killer. Say What?

Refreshing to watch a movie with subtle and exact dialogue that allows you to pierce into the heart of the characters. Both Russell Crowe and Christian Bale exceeded the intended script of their characters. This movie doesn't dumb down the actions or dialogue so the viewers can (hint hint) follow and understand the driving forces that stem from the core of these characters. That is why this script is so refreshing. The complexity of the characters was developed through every seen and not plaining narrated to the audience. Love this film...wish more hollywood films were this great!!

Great modern day western remake! I was blown away by this masterpiece...Crowe and Bale are awesome as hero villian status and really went beyond the call of duty here. The ending was very good, but sad...The movie was better than very good...was excellent--one of the best this Year, go see!

Okay, first you may want to know that this is an entertaining movie and you won't be sorry that you saw it. Good plot, lots of action, interesting characters. Second, the uppity critics who compare it unfavorably with the old Glen Ford version are talking through their black, bullet-riddled hats. I saw the old version on TV. Blaah. But the real problem with this movie is that the casting was wrong. Why on God's Green Earth do you sign someone who brings as much to the table as Crowe, and put him in a supporting role. Sure, the outlaw role was supposed to be charismatic and more than just slightly seductive. But Crowe can lend the beleaguered hero role a real, surpassing spirit (Cinderella Man) and I can't imagine why he didn't get the chance here. Not that Bale wasn't good. He just wasn't great.

This movie was awesome. The big surprise was Christian Bale. This was a "stand out" performance. I can't say enough about the film; it was one of the best films I have seen in a while.

common people don't be so carried away by the hype behind this movie, its not really a great western there is NO logic in this movie and if you have slept after first 30 min and woke before last 15 min . u wouldn't have really missed anything - i dont really understand why should a thug kill all his loyal gang members for a guy who he met a day before . you cannot compare this kinda movie with "Good, bad and ugly" .. its illegal i would say ..i have rated this movie one for russle crows acting & nothing more.. peace

This is classic western mythology, true, with the amazing plot contrivances. However, that said, this movie never bored me at all. It doesn't let up from start to finish. And the antagonist's redemption, while right out of Screenwriting 101, was the perfect way to end this film. As always, Christian Bale is incredible, and in my opinion he is one of the greatest actors today. Last year's "The Prestige" was a better role for him, though. And Russell Crowe, well, as always, he is just Russell. (He was great in 2006's "A Good Year.") Beautiful on the big screen!

Bumble: Whatever. If you don't like critiques then why do you read them. This movie was lame. If you want to waste your money then go see the movie. i suggest waiting til it comes out on DVD. I'll only cost you a few bucks, your whole Fam Damnly could waste time watching it and you could save lots of money when you pop your own popcorn. Then after watching it you'll see that I was right and that it helps when you read critiques of others. Your welcome!

Between Van Heflin & Glenn Ford or Russell Crowe & Christian Bale who did the best between these 2 versions, Crowe & Bale outdone the competition with this 50th anniversary remake.

I think all of you believe yourselves to be critics by how you rate the movie.I have yet to see this movie but was told that it is definitely worth watching.I think you all want everything to be so realistic that you let yourselves be dissappointed by the simplest things.Movies are meant to be unrealistic it's a reality within our reality and therefore not possible or (unrealistic) but that is what make movies. So get over it.
