GE may have a hit on its hands, but its not the show 30 Rock, - its their new 3-types-of-heat oven. When Alec Baldwins character is introduced, his main claim to success is supposedly because of some work he did promoting GEs new 3-heat oven. A large poster of that oven is being attached to his wall while he gushes over how wonderful it is. Okay, that was cute... a little inside humor tossed at the public because GE owns the network. It wasnt until the shows first commercial break that I realized Alec Baldwins character wasnt kidding. GE actually does have that oven, and during the first break, they showed the same oven commercial not once, but twice! Does this mean that they couldnt find enough sponsors to fill the other ad spot, or did they purposely hog the time so that they could repeat the pitch for their new oven? The show has some clever dialogue, but the plot has been overdone a new boss vs- the employees. The mere fact that the subject matter is a TV show instead of another type of employment situation doesnt make the tired plot any better. The only thing that may give this show a chance is the fantastic talent of Baldwin, supported by Fey and Morgan. An improvement might be less product placement and letting Jane Krakowski (I hope thats how she spells it) show off her singing skills. The first episode of this show turned the practice of product placement on its head. This wasnt merely the placing of a product into a program it was the placing of a program into a commercial.
