This movie had a under tone of greed that we as a race seem to deal with in a personal way and not in a big picture way which makes it a perpetual problem that will never be defeated by small minded individuals who concentrate on one corner of the world rather than understand the problem as a whole. It was a great movie that showed that those of us who will survive the end will be the rich, the priviledged, and the lucky. All in all it was a great ride, the movies special effects were awesome, the story line had its moments, and the end put everyone back home to the cradle of life Africa. What a crazy ride!!! Who did the casting for this trainwreck ? Danny Glover is no Obama or Morgan Freeman (from Deep Impact) (I sense a trend) and the guy playing the scientist is not lead role material. As for John Cusack who decided the star of Better Off Dead was the best choice ? The action CGI is awesome and leaves you feeling the loss of the kazillion people that are dead and dying but you should be riveted trying to figure out how John is going to pull the water hose out of the gears to save the ship. Sign In 0 out of 1 users found this helpful Mayans Didnt Say All of ThatJudging on some of the reviews I had come across, and experiences with past movie commercials, I'm relieve not seeing this film. I have no love of any disaster or apocalyptic films, whatsoever. Besides, having watched History Channel or NGC, didn't the Mayans just only say that the world in 2012 would experience a super "Tsunami", not crack open like an egg? The depiction of a sea monster on the concerned Mayan structure is an indicator of a "Great flood". Was this review helpful? I am a John Cusak fan and love his work and he really delivered in this movie. Amanda Peet was excellent as well and I was glad to see her in a movie like this. 2012 was an action adventure that really delivered to me. Was this review helpful? When you watch this movie you start to understand what some people think of human life, and if it is value or not. It also shows what people will do to stay alive. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful  HummmmmAs with every review, I agree the speical effects were indeed cool and on the big screen very well done. My main issue is the pace of the movie. Although a lot of things are happening: destruction, mayhem, good guys, bad guys, really great crazy guy (woody harleson is awesome here) to name a few, it felt like the movie kept building to this huge nail biting, chair gripping scene ( there was plenty going on to get there) and it never happens. Good actors, many really well done scenes, I can't explain it, the movie just felt long and I left a little disappointed. Was this review helpful? It could have easily been done in under 2 hours. I didn't like the many biblical references in this film. It's a disaster film, not a film to promote Christian ideas. Very little plot, flawed character development....I feel it was a waste of money. I would recommend getting it from Netflix. That way, if you hate it, you can just turn it off and you haven't wasted any money. As a side note, my 13 year old son did like the movie. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 1 users found this helpful 2012GREAT!!Posted: 11/23/2009A review of 2012 by athanasius58 I loved this flick: it was great over-the-top fun----it's gets sooooo tiresome reading reviews from people(both film critics and amateurs) who act as though they were expecting a documentary co-produced by NASA and the US Geological Survey---how much fun would that be anyway?!This flick had appealing characters, an engaging enough plot; a non-preachy appeal to the "better angels of our nature"; and simply fantastic special effects. I mean where else can you see tidal waves covering the Himalayas, the Yellowstone caldera blowing its top, California sliding into the ocean, etc, etc.: it was great!!Roland Emerich is a worthy descendant of Irwin Allen. If you aren't wowed by this movie, you must be a spoiled brat that isn't wowed by anything. It needs to win an award of some kind for sure. An edge of your seat thriller the whole way!
