Synopsis
Though not among the funnier Honeymooners sketches of the early '50s, the 38-minute "Honeymooners Christmas Party" is of historical interest as one of the few existing records of Jackie Gleason's one-man "repertory company." While Ralph Kramden (Gleason) is off purchasing potato salad, his wife Alice makes preparations for a Christmas party in the couple's tiny Brooklyn apartment. During Ralph's absence, the Kramden kitchen is visited by such local eccentrics as garrulous Joe the Bartender, eternal patsy Fenwick Babbitt, the silent Poor Soul, the incompetent Rudy the Repairman, and millionaire wastrel Reginald Van Gleason III -- all played by Jackie Gleason! In addition, Alice and her neighbors, Ed and Trixie Norton, entertain such special guests as singer Frances Langford, child performer Eddie Hodges, and the June Taylor Dancers. A classic of its kind, this extended sketch originally aired live on the December 19, 1953, edition of The Jackie Gleason Show. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
