With Mrs. Simms having retired, Alice Garvey (Hersha Parady) has taken over as Walnut Grove's schoolteacher -- a task made difficult by the fact that Alice's son, Andy (Patrick Laborteaux), is a classic underachiever. Hoping to improve Andy's grades, Alice hires her best pupil, Nellie Oleson (Alison Arngrim), to tutor the boy.
