Allen Coulter's directorial debut, "Hollywoodland" concerns the infamous
death of the television Superman George Reeves (Ben Affleck). After the one-time
famous actor dies due to a gunshot wound at a party, the police rule it a
suicide. Reeves' mother feels there is more to the story and hires private
detective Louis Simo (Adrien Brody) to investigate. Simo discovers that although
Reeves had a fiancée (Robin Tunney), he was sexually involved with Toni Mannix
(Diane Lane), the wife of MGM honcho Eddie Mannix (Bob Hoskins). As Simo
attempts to solve the mystery, he learns that the case touches him in surprising
ways. Before long, there are dark forces keeping Simo from the truth. ~ Perry
