Synopsis
A moviemaker who has finally found the subject for his next project now has to scramble to get it on film in this comedy which was written by its star, actor Paul Berczeller. Paul (Berczeller) is an American expatriate living in England who wants to make a film about the true story of Alfred Merhan, a refugee from Iran who arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris in 1988, hoping to take up residence in France. The French government initially objected to Merhan's entrance into the country, and as his attorney argued his case with French immigration officials, Merhan found himself living on a bench in one of the airport's lounges -- and he ended up staying at the airport for the next 11 years until his case was finally sorted out. Paul has persuaded Alfred Merhan to play himself in his film, but while Merhan prepares to re-create his ordeal for the cameras, Paul finds himself unable to finish his screenplay. He's trying to piece together his failing relationship with his girlfriend, and he's trying to find a way to wrangle a helicopter shot he's certain is vital for his film. Here to Where was shot on digital video on location at Charles de Gaulle Airport, with the real Alfred Merhan re-creating his long stay on the bench just as he does in the film-within-the-film. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
