'The X-Files: I Want To Believe' (2008)

We wanted to believe, too, but even that title had us skeptical. The first "X-Files" film from 1998 is somewhat underrated in our view, deftly doing a decent balancing act of serving both the fans and a wider audience. But "I Want To ... moreBelieve," incredibly, does neither, and is the first major sequel in recent memory that actually looks, feels and plays far smaller than its precursor. Perhaps creator Chris Carter stopped believing in his own creation, or even in himself -- something that we know "Transformers" director Michael Bay doesn't have a problem with.
