I have to admit that I had my doubts before seeing it today. We all know how good the John Carpenter version was. This was the same story but not a remake...actually a prequel. It was well made and acted by "no-names." I really enjoyed it. I'll buy it on bluray.

I saw the original Howard Hawks "The Thing" when I was ten, and couldn't sleep for two nights.

Going to see this but I have my doubts that it will come anything close to John Carpenters version. Few copys do. Aliens was an exception tho. The mood Carpenter set, the action, the sets, the sheer terror kept me on the edge of my seat. I often re-visit it for a great replay.

Awesome effects. It serves well as a prequel to Carpenters movie "The Thing".

awsome movie loved that it stayed faithfull to carpenters one ,worth waiting for 30 years to see ,hope they can now make a true sequel, its open if you pay attention, there is a russian  base 50 miles from where it ends, close enough to explore both bases destroyed by the thing, with possibly three survivors left to explain things to the russians before all hell breaks loose again.....please someone get john carpenter a call!
