"Batman & Robin" (1997)
Inasmuch as Joel Schumacher has never made a good film (I can
hear you defending "The Lost Boys," but even you can admit it's not good, even if
it is awesome), it almost feels small-minded to pick out this one for the list,
but let's be serious. The ... moreBatman films have had to endure many indignities, but
none so grave as the presence of Schumacher, who insists on making everything as
camp and stupid as possible, right down to the nipples on George Clooney's Batsuit. Compare any frame of this
worthless amusement park extravagance to even the trailer for Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight," and you'll understand why Schumacher's
"vision" (such as it is) was insulting even to those of us who don't take comics
terribly seriously. Some of us just want someone to be invested in the movie
we're expected to see. Like the director. A few years later, the studio handed
the reins to Nolan, who is a genius, and cleared its throat when Schumacher's
name came up. (Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett
