The ... morefilm is remarkable for showing the humanity behind its initially stereotypical gay characters. The movie was an enormous success in America. It was remade in English in 1996 as "The Birdcage" with Nathan Lane and Robin Williams. It was also adapted into a hit 1983 Broadway musical, the opening number of which is one of the LGBT community's reigning anthems: "I Am What I Am."
