WORST! Robert De Niro and Al Pacino: Remember
Michael Mann's virtuoso Los Angeles crime saga "Heat"? A masterwork that managed
to be sprawling while taut and thrilling, luminously stylish while exceptionally
emotional and extraordinarily acted, it was also the movie that teamed
... more Robert De
Niro and Al Pacino face-to-face for the first time. And we were excited,
incredibly excited, even if the talented titans shared only one scene together.
So you'd think that a mere 13 years wouldn't have erased the thrill of watching
two legends, two stars of classics like "Raging Bull" and "The Godfather," two men who can yell and smolder and attack
like nobody's business, right? Wrong. With "Righteous Kill," the De Niro-Pacino
pairing collected little interest, no matter how much the studio tried to hype
their potential awesomeness. The movie was underwhelming (it was no "Heat"
obviously), so it's not entirely the actors' faults, but for men who used to
pick and choose their material with one eye on their art and not on their
paycheck, these guys have to take some of the (sorry) heat. (Overture
