Puff Baddy:Marisa Tomei may be earning accolades for her boob-baring
role as a veteran stripper in "The Wrestler," but she's as demure as can be at the Golden
Globes, covering up in a black and white Oscar de la Renta ensemble. Too bad the
Oscar winner (remember she won for "My Cousin Vinny... more"? You don't? Just trust us, she did) is also
the sartorial embodiment of the Sinatra classic "That's Life," in which he
croons that he's been a "puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king."
On the puppet, pauper and pawn side, there's the suddenly Pinocchio-nosed and
employment-seeking stylist who assured a trusting Tomei that she looked
fantastic in a lengthy tube of black fabric, a bulky lace belt and a billowing
blouse. As for the pirate, poet and king, that's easy: Those all fall under the
banner of Jerry Seinfeld. You'll recall that he popularized her puffy
shirt on an eponymous episode of his sitcom, which aired a year before Marisa
guest-starred as a potential love interest for George, who wowed her with the
deeper meaning of manure ("Manure is not really that bad a word. I mean, it's
'newer,' which is good, and a 'ma' in front of it, which is also good."). Alas,
unlike animal droppings, there's little good to be found in Marisa's dire duds,
although we'd like to think that even though she's fallen flat on her face,
she'll just pick herself up and get back up in the fashion race. (Retna
