George Takei (April 20):
That's Mr. Sulu to you. The beloved co-star of the original "Star
Trek" series has had a broad, accomplished life. As a young boy, he and his
family were sent to an internment camp during World War II. He decided to pursue
acting at an early age and
... morelanded roles in "Perry
Mason," "I Spy"
and "PT 109." But it was his breakout role as Hikaru Sulu in
"Star Trek" that's become the role he's identified with, and has embraced "Trek"
fan shows. He also dabbled in politics in the '70s and '80s, running for mayor
of Los Angeles in 1973 (and coming in second, behind Tom Bradley, in a field of
nearly 20 candidates). In later years he's come out as gay and in a longtime
committed relationship, and has a recurring role in NBC's "Heroes"
as the father of Hiro Nakamura. Oh, my! (Chris Ashford/Camera Press/Retna
