Gerard Butler We're thinking Gerard
Butler has finally passed the phase of viewers internally screaming, "This is
Sparta!" whenever one sees him on-screen. Nevertheless, it was his splash as the
valiant, tough, though vaguely insane (at least suicidally speaking) Greek King
... moreLeonidas in "300" that made him a household name. Though the hunky
Scotsman had appeared in a few other movies before his lung-screaming,
head-chopping, Persian-fighting performance (most notably "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life," opposite Angelina Jolie; and "Timeline"), it was "300" that made him a near
icon. "P.S. I Love You," a flaccid romance with Hilary Swank, was a tepid follow-up to such a monumental
action hit, but Butler has further impressed with the family picture "Nim's Island" and Guy Ritchie's "RocknRolla." He was rumored to be reprising Kurt Russell's role in a remake of "Escape From New York," a tall order that he's not involved
with anymore. Which is probably a blessing. We like Butler, but we're not sure
if even he could fill Snake Plissken's boots. (Sara De Boer/Retna
