BRUNO KIRBY
April 28,
1949 - Aug. 14, 2006
An actor with Hollywood roots, Bruno Kirby pointed his onscreen persona
toward his New York City birthplace through a succession of supporting roles
that showcased his skill at creating aggressive, even obnoxious characters who
ultimately charmed audiences. He became a dependable supporting actor in 1980s
and early '90s screen comedies, working with Albert Brooks in 1981's "Modern Romance," Robin Williams in 1987's "Good Morning, Vietnam," and Marlon Brando in 1990's "The Freshman," lampooning his earlier career break on "The Godfather II." With Billy Crystal, Kirby provided a reliable comic foil in
two major screen hits, "When Harry Met Sally" and "City Slickers." He died in August from complications related to
leukemia.
