Few combine politics and music as effectively as rapper MV Bill, whose career has been just as much about raising awareness of injustice in his native Brazil as it has been about music. On records such as 1999's CDD Mandando Fechado, MV Bill has ... moreshined a light on the horrific living conditions of Cidade de Deus, the Rio de Janeiro slum in which he was raised and which many in American know as the City of God. In 2001, he organized a charity concert to draw attention to the dire state of the country's exploited.
