'Iron Man 2' in 3-D?: Sort of lost in the mania around the
Disney/Marvel deal and the subsequent Warner/DC reorg was this juicy little tidbit about the
existence of a 3-D-converted test reel from "Iron Man 2" being given a serious
once-over by the powers that be at Marvel,
... moreParamount (which distributes the "Iron Man" pictures) and Disney. Could this be a sign
of things to come? Will "Iron Man 2" and future Marvel movies arrive in 3-D? No
one's saying, but to my mind, the bigger question is: Do they need to? 3-D has
been all the rage this year, both with selected animated offerings and
live-action films, but it still feels like a gimmick that adds nothing to -- and
may detract from -- the essential narrative aspect of feature films. Will
"Avatar" change that view later this year and pave the way for "serious" 3-D
movies? Is this something you want to see?
