PG,1hr 42min Released: June 5, 1998 Director: Distributor: Paramount Pictures Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies (Note: This review refers to the Blu-ray version of the DVD.) Jim Carrey is the insurance agent whose life has been turned into a 24-hour TV phenomenon, only he doesn't know it. Made before the explosion of reality TV, Peter Weir's film was really a media satire (fame simply comes from media exposure) about an artificial world modeled after the harmless suburban utopias of yesteryear sitcoms. Hapless, innocent Truman is a star largely because he doesn't know he's a superstar, which keeps him pure and uninfected by ego. Ed Harris plays Christof, the creator with a God complex. Includes three featurettes and deleted scenes among its supplements. | ||||||||||||||
