Robert Downey Jr. plays Los Angeles Times journalist Steve Lopez, and Jamie Foxx is former classical music prodigy turned troubled street person Nathaniel Anthony Ayers in the film based on a true story drama about the relationship between these two men as Lopez profiles the musician and his story. "It's a little messy and beaten up in spots, but ultimately it's decent and dignified," writes MSN film critic James Rocchi, who argues that the film has "just enough blunt charm and tough intelligence that we willingly tune out the few flat notes and cliché chords it hits along the way." The DVD and Blu-ray feature commentary by director Joe Wright, three featurettes and deleted scenes. Exclusive to the Blu-ray edition is the sketchy four-minute "Juilliard: The Education of Nathaniel Ayers."
