DVD Review
by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies

(Note: This review refers to the Blu-ray version of the DVD.)

The screen adaptation of Bernhard Schlink's novel about German guilt and complicity in the Holocaust, starring Kate Winslet in an Oscar-winning performance, arrives on Blu-ray two weeks after its DVD debut. Stephen Daldry directs, and Ralph Fiennes and David Kross co-star. It includes all the featurettes from the DVD: the conventional 23-minute overview "Adapting a Timeless Masterpiece: Making The Reader," the playful "A Conversation With David Kross and Stephen Daldry," featurettes on the makeup and on composer Nico Muhly and production designer Brigitte Broch, and 11 deleted scenes.
