Rob Reiner directs this fantasy cult classic, based on the novel by William Goldman (who pens the screenplay as well), about a beautiful princess (Robin Wright Penn), a dashing pirate (Cary Elwes), an evil prince (Chris Sarandon), and a motley crew of villains who join up with our heroes to conquer evil and live happily ever after. Both celebrating and spoofing fantasy-adventure conventions, the high-energy swashbuckler is full of tongue-in-cheek humor that only enhances the fun. Mandy Patinkin co-stars as the Spaniard Inigo Montoya ("You killed my father. Prepare to die!"), and Wallace Shawn, Andre the Giant, Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, Christopher Guest and Peter Cook all make memorable appearances in eminently quotable performances. The all-new supplements for this edition include the far too short interview featurette "The Princess Bride: The Untold Story" (the stories told by Patinkin and others merely whet the appetite), "The Art of Fencing," and "Fairy Tales and Folklore," all under 10 minutes each. There's also an interactive quiz, but all told this release is rather less special than the 2001 "special edition" version. DVD Detailed Information | ||||||||||||||||
