John Ford punctures the heroic myths he helped create in a bitter tale of a freedom-loving gunfighter (John Wayne) who sacrifices his frontier for civilization. James Stewart is decades too old to play the naïve tenderfoot from the East, and Ford hardly leaves the confines of the soundstage, yet it is still one of the great Westerns and Ford's most ambiguous portrait of the lies that built the West: "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend." The new two-disc edition features: commentary by Peter Bogdanovich (with archival recordings of Ford and Stewart); bonus audio clips of Ford, Stewart and Lee Marvin; and the seven-part featurette "The Size of Legends, the Souls of Myth."
