Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Chris Pratt, a former high-school star athlete turned brain-damaged bank janitor who is fingered as a would-be patsy in a bank heist in Scott Frank's understated thriller. His short-term memory is scrambled and he blurts out whatever he's thinking, thanks to a harrowing car wreck that still haunts him. But he's no fool, a mistake low-rent criminal mastermind Matthew Goode makes when he sends a sweet little beauty (Isla Fisher) to seduce him into their gang. Appearances are deceiving all around in this contemporary twist on a classic crime-film situation -- the innocent dupe lured into a criminal enterprise -- and the cast carves vivid characters from the figures, especially Jeff Daniels as Gordon-Levitt's acerbic but loyal blind roommate. It's an intelligently done little modern noir. The disc features commentary by writer/director Frank and director of photography Alar Kivilo, the making-of featurette "Sequencing the Lookout," and the featurette "Behind the Mind of Chris Pratt." | ||||||||||||||
