R,1hr 57min Release: 2006 Directors: Distributor: Sony Pictures Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies The second feature from music video director Tarsem Singh ("The Cell") is a glorious celebration of the magic of stories and the way that audiences make them their own. As an injured silent movie stuntman (Lee Pace) with a broken heart spins his make-believe epic to little immigrant girl Alexandria, her own personal experiences and cultural references color his tale (drawn from adventure fiction and Hollywood movies) with every new twist. Shot all over the world, this deliciously, vividly visual phantasmagoria of an adventure fantasy is one of the loveliest and most innocent films of the year. Justine Waddell co-stars. Director Singh solos on one of the two commentary tracks in a near monotone of a voice, but packs his talk with illuminating observations and interesting production details. Actor Pace and co-writers Dan Gilroy and Nico Soultanakis are only slightly more animated and far less informative in their track. Also features two deleted scenes (running barely 90 seconds) and two behind-the-scenes featurettes (that together run almost an hour). Also available in a beautiful Blu-ray edition. | ||||||||||||||
