R,1hr 52min Released: March 28, 2008 Director: Distributor: Paramount Pictures Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies Nine years after her debut feature, "Boys Don't Cry," Kimberly Peirce directs her second film, about a decorated American soldier (Ryan Phillippe) who comes home after his tour of duty in Iraq and attempts to reconnect with civilian life, only to be called back for another tour. "[Peirce] shows great sensitivity to the trauma these men endure as they struggle to resume their former lives, something that's been covered in countless other war films, from 'The Deer Hunter' to 'Born on the Fourth of July'," writes Associated Press critic Christy Lemire. "Still, it couldn't be a more relevant or worthwhile topic, and it's the strongest of the many facets she attempts to tackle in a two-hour span." Abbie Cornish, Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ciaran Hinds and Timothy Olyphant co-star. Features commentary by Peirce and co-writer Mark Richard, the featurettes "The Making of Stop-Loss" and "A Day in Boot Camp," and 11 deleted scenes with optional commentary. | ||||||||||||||
