PG13,2hrs 5min Released: August 10, 2007 Director: Distributor: Paramount Pictures Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies Matthew Vaughn's colorful adaptation of Neil Gaiman's grown-up fairy tale is both a fantasy and a spoof, the lively story of a love-struck orphan (Charlie Cox) who strikes out for the forbidden lands across "the wall" in search of a fallen star, which he finds in the human form of Claire Danes. Michelle Pfeiffer steals the show as a crone of a witch who takes on temporary youth in her own quest for the star. "A little whimsy goes a long way, especially when accompanied by special-effects overkill," writes critic John Hartl on MSNBC. "Still, if you're in an indulgent mood or if you've had it with wizards and witches and magic spells lately, you may warm to this fractured fairy tale, which gently mocks many conventions of the genre." Sienna Miller, Ricky Gervais, Jason Flemyng, Rupert Everett, Peter O'Toole and Robert De Niro co-star. Includes the featurette "Good Omens: The Making of Stardust," deleted scenes and a blooper reel. Available in separate wide-screen and full-screen editions, plus HD DVD format. | ||||||||||||||
