R,1hr 26min Released: September 7, 2007 Director: Distributor: New Line Cinema Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies For pure gonzo gunplay and action movie overkill, this gloriously absurd spectacle is the most fun I've had in ages. Clive Owen is just your average, carrot-munching, rogue special-forces killing machine who happens to be in the wrong place at the right time, specifically a grimy street where sleazy assassins are trying to murder a pregnant woman, and becomes the unlikely babysitter and bodyguard to a newborn that has been marked for death. It doesn't make any sense. It doesn't matter. Owen has the brooding charisma and tough-guy heroism needed to sell his constant defiance of the laws of physics and logic, and Paul Giamatti has a blast overacting up a storm as the hit man heavyweight whose armies of hired killers are sacrificed in the cause. Monica Bellucci is definitely convincing as the walking dairy dispenser of a hooker dragged into the chaos to wet-nurse the infant. Director Michael Davis never takes it too seriously and never lets the momentum falter. Features commentary by Davis, the director's original animatics (animated storyboards), a making-of featurette, and deleted scenes among its supplements. Also available in Blu-ray format. | ||||||||||||||
