R,1hr 55min Released: December 7, 2007 Director: Distributor: Samuel Goldwyn Films Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies Gambler and grifter Jason Statham leaves prison vowing revenge on the crime boss (Ray Liotta) who sent him up, but gets sidetracked by a pair of enigmatic loan sharks (Vincent Pastore and André Benjamin), a rare blood disease, and an offer he can't refuse. Or, for that matter, even grasp. That makes us even. "Revolver" looks like a gritty gangster thriller and plays like "The Matrix" with an incoherent stream of spacey psychobabble. Give Guy Ritchie credit for directing the self-indulgent mind games with such confidence, and Liotta for keeping a straight face (or is it just numb?) through it all. By the time it's over, the metaphysical revenge story dissolves into the ether, like the hazy memory of a late-night bull session over too many drinks. Features commentary by Ritchie, the featurettes "The Game: The Making of Revolver" and "The Concept" (which might help you get a grip on the tough-guy metaphysics ... or not), and deleted scenes and outtakes. | ||||||||||||||
