Reno 911!: Miami

"They are the stupidest bunch of people I have ever met without being legally retarded." Comedy Central's "Cops" parody, a perfectly conceptualized small-screen skit show by way of a reality TV spoof, expands to feature length without a single change in style or storytelling. The squad that couldn't shoot straight, led by Lieutenant Jim Dangle (co-writer Thomas Lennon) and his snug, nonregulation shorts, heads to Miami en masse for a police convention and ends up patrolling the streets of Miami when a chemical attack quarantines all the real cops. The filmmakers put nominal effort into the premise and even less into the execution, which is primarily an excuse to push humiliating sexual escapades and criminal incompetence in paradise to R-rated extremes, but it's actually better suited to home viewing, where it plays like an epic episode. The DVD adds even more raunch with added unrated footage. Patton Oswalt and Paul Rudd co-star with the regular gang of idiots (Robert Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney, Cedric Yarbrough, Carlos Alazraqui, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Niecy Nash, Mary Birdsong) and The Rock, Paul Reubens, Danny DeVito, Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter make cameos.

The disc features three commentary tracks. Only one is by real people. Director Robert Ben Garant and co-stars/co-writers Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney provide the primary track, while the cast falls back into character and splits into teams for the other two tracks. It also features six extended scenes (with optional filmmaker commentary), four "public service announcements" from the Reno Sheriff's Department (actually high-concept/low-budget movie promos) and footage from the premiere (with the cast, of course, still in character).
