NR,1hr 30min Genre: Released: October 1, 1968 Director: Distributor: Continental Distributing Inc. Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies The dead rise from their graves and feast on the living, and the unstoppable army of flesh-eating ghouls is made more terrifying by the complete absence of motivation or explanation: They literally come from nowhere. George Romero's rough, raw, black-and-white horror, shot on weekends over the course of a year with an amateur cast and a tiny budget, became the first genuinely modern horror movie. Shot more like a documentary of the apocalypse than the gothic horrors that defined the '60s, it bled right into the fabric of the culture. New to this remastered DVD edition (it looks as good as it ever has on home video) are "One for the Fire: The Legacy of Night of the Living Dead," a rambling but exhaustive feature-length documentary on the making of the film, and a 15-minute 2007 Q&A with Romero. The two commentary tracks are packed with cast and crew members, and "The Last Interview With Duane Jones," a 16-minute, audio-only interview with the film's star, were previously featured on Elite's "Millennium Edition."
