DVD Review

A cute title, a cute couple, and a playful, underplayed chemistry between young stars Michael Cera and Kat Dennings. So why isn't there any discernable chemical reaction in this modern teen romance set over a long night careening around the streets of New York? There's a bouncy soundtrack and fun culture of struggling bands and secret shows, but the story never really seems to catch. There are two commentary tracks (one with Cera, Dennings and Ari Graynor joking around with director Peter Sollett, and one with Sollett comparing notes with the book's authors and the screenwriter), plus a handful of deleted scenes and outtakes, a lighthearted collection of featurettes (see Dennings reenact the film with cut-out puppets in five minutes), and a digital copy of the film for portable media players. Exclusive to the Blu-ray edition is Telestrator commentary (Sollett and the stars scribble across the screen to no discernable purpose) and interactive functions for BD Live machines.
