PG13,2hrs 5min Genre: Released: November 24, 1993 Director: Distributor: 20th Century Fox Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies Robin Williams dons pounds of latex to become a British nanny in this cross-dressing family comedy. Think "Tootsie" by way of "Mary Poppins." The hit comedy, directed by Chris Columbus, was all but developed for Williams to bounce through various personae, from the opening scenes (where he zips between two characters to voice a short cartoon on the fly) to his maternal alter-ego, Mrs. Doubtfire, a gentle soul who inspires the wacky, irresponsible dad to become reliable. The comedy co-stars Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, Harvey Fierstein and Mara Wilson. The featurettes "From Man to Mrs.: The Evolution of Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Aging Gracefully: A Look Back at Mrs. Doubtfire" are new to this edition, and the disc includes the previously available "A Conversation with Legendary Animator Chuck Jones" and the original 1993 featurette. Also features deleted and extended scenes, alternate scenes, and footage of on-set improvisations; a makeup featurette and makeup tests; animation pencil tests and the final animated sequence featured in the opening act of the film; and numerous galleries of stills from the production. | ||||||||||||||
