G,1hr 32min Released: November 2, 2001 Directors: Distributor: Buena Vista Distribution Compa Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies (Note: This review refers to the Blu-ray version of the DVD.) As Pete Docter's "Up" gets its home video release, his directorial debut, "Monsters, Inc." (2001), makes its Blu-ray debut and joins the growing ranks of Pixar features on high definition. This giddy twist on the nightmare movie features John Goodman and Billy Crystal voicing a pair of monsters from the closet-land of Monstropolis, where they spring into the bedrooms of kids to scare them silly. It's quite sweet and very funny, a buddy film with crazy creatures and a darling little girl scurrying through their world without a care. The four-disc set features all the supplements of the previous DVD edition (including commentary, animated shorts and featurettes), plus a digital copy and a bonus DVD version. Exclusive to the Blu-ray is an enjoyable "Filmmaker's Roundtable" (they reflect back on making the movie) and a profile of the "Monsters, Inc." theme park ride for Disney Tokyo, plus a new interactive game.Pixar's "Cars" sped onto Blu-ray a couple of years ago, but it has been repacked as the "Ultimate Cars Gift Pack" for this holiday season, which means this version comes with a couple of actual die-cast toy cars; kids can play with their own versions of Lightning McQueen and Mater. | ||||||||||||||
