R,1hr 55min Released: January 25, 1970 Director: Distributor: 20th Century Fox Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies (Note: This review refers to the Blu-ray version of the DVD.) Robert Altman burst onto the American cinema landscape in 1970 with the raw, ragged, mordantly hilarious and savagely cruel wartime comedy. His portrait of war as a madhouse launched Altman's career and defined his signature style of sprawling casts pinging around like billiard balls while dialogue fights for attention in scenes of anarchy glued together like a mosaic. The supplements from the previous DVD release are all here: commentary by Altman, three documentaries and the 30th anniversary cast reunion. New to Blu-ray is the silly "Complete Interactive Guide," which keeps tabs on the characters while keeping a tally of Hawkeye's drinks and Duke's hook-ups. | ||||||||||||||
