William Hurt earned an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of a flamboyant homosexual in a totalitarian Latin American country who is tossed into a prison cell with a Marxist activist (Raul Julia), in the screen adaptation of Manuel Puig's novel. Hector Babenco directs from Leonard Schrader's screenplay adaptation, and both were nominated for Oscars, as was the film. The disc includes the feature-length documentary "Tangled Web: Making Kiss of the Spider Woman" (did you know Burt Lancaster was originally interested in the lead?) and the slide-show audio essay "Kiss of the Spider Woman: Transition from Novel to Film" by Norman Lavers, plus two mini-featurettes, stills galleries and a trivia track. Previously available only as an Amazon exclusive, but it's the debut of the Blu-ray edition.
