PG13,1hr 28min Released: February 14, 2008 Director: Distributor: 20th Century Fox Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies
Doug Liman directs the screen version of a young-adult sci-fi novel about a troubled loner (Hayden Christensen) who can teleport anywhere in the world. There's plenty of flash and a potentially interesting conflict when he discovers a culture of rogue Jumpers and the merciless Paladins (led by Samuel L. Jackson) who hunt them down, but even with three credited screenwriters they couldn't turn the spectacle into a real story. Christensen has all the emotional range of moss, and Jackson simply recycles old roles with his scenery-chewing performance. Jamie Bell, Rachel Bilson and Diane Lane co-star. All DVD versions feature commentary by Liman with co-screenwriter/producer Simon Kinberg and producer Lucas Foster, two production featurettes and a gallery of production art, as well as a digital copy of the film for portable media players. The two-disc special edition also features the 35-minute documentary "Doug Liman's Jumper: Uncensored," with a lot of behind-the-scenes footage and even more of Liman's ego, the featurette "Jumping Around the World," six deleted scenes and an animated graphic novel. The Blu-ray version features all of these supplements plus the exclusive picture-in-picture version of "Jumping Around the World." | |||||||||||||||
