NR,1hr 57min Released: September 17, 1964 Director: Distributor: United Artists Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies (Note: This review refers to the Blu-ray version of the DVD.) "Goldfinger" was the first blockbuster installment of the Bond franchise, and it solidified the Bond formula: groaning wit, Q's glorious gadgets, a megalomaniac supervillain (played by a memorably jaunty Gert Fröbe) bent on world domination by way of the greatest heist ever attempted (he's going to do a number on Fort Knox), and, of course, girls, girls, girls. Sean Connery, the first and still the best Bond, is as suave as ever, and the villain is dastardly indeed: "Do you expect me to talk?" "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!" Also new to Blu-ray are two of the franchises weakest installments: the goofy, misguided sci-fi extravaganza "Moonraker" with Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan's third outing, "The World Is Not Enough," with Denise Richards failing to convince anyone that she is a nuclear physicist. Each disc features a pair of commentary tracks and a whole slew of featurettes, archival footage and other supplements. | ||||||||||||||
