R,1hr 58min Genre: Released: May 18, 2007 Director: Distributor: Magnolia Pictures Starring: DVD Review by Sean Axmaker, Special to MSN Movies Hal Hartley concocts a sequel to his acclaimed 1997 drama "Henry Fool" centered around Henry's wife, Fay (Parker Posey). By now, she's a single mom trying to raise a troubled teenage son on the residuals earned from books by her brother (James Urbaniak), a controversial poet imprisoned for helping Henry escape a murder indictment. This deliberately convoluted follow-up spins a whole new take on Henry, who turns out to be a former CIA agent burnout whose self-indulgent, incoherent magnum opus "The Confessions" just may contain secrets that could take down a government. All of which lands Fay in the midst of a 21st-century geo-political thriller, which comes complete with self-consciously clipped conversations that sound like a New York indie take on David Mamet. The literary puzzle-box of a plot makes this one for Hartley fans only. Jeff Goldblum, Saffron Burrows and Thomas Jay Ryan co-star. The DVD includes two featurettes, deleted scenes and Hal Hartley's trailer. | ||||||||||||||
